What Restorative actually is
Bolsters, blankets and blocks carry the weight of you in each position. Poses are held for five to ten minutes and there is no effort anywhere. Some classes end in yoga nidrā, a guided rest that sits between waking and sleep.
It is the least impressive-looking class we teach and often the one people need most. Burnout, insomnia and anxiety all respond to it in a way that a harder class will not touch.

Questions
- Is it just lying down?
- Largely, yes — carefully arranged. Whether that sounds like a waste of an hour or exactly what you need is usually a good diagnostic.
- What if I fall asleep?
- Many people do. It is not a failure of the class.
- I do not own a bolster.
- Two firm pillows and a folded blanket will carry you through the whole class.
